Barrel Aged Brrrbon '11 is a smooth winter warmer and the first release as part of the Alchemy Project. Following the initial brewing process of Brrr, the beer was given a fresh charge of hops during secondary fermentation and then put into Kentucky Bourbon barrels and aged for four months. After barrel aging, the beer was allowed a tertiary fermentation for final conditioning before release.

I tried the BRRRBON'12 which was rated 9.4 ABV. It poured out a interesting murky sweet tea color. The aroma is of bourbon, vanilla and alchol. The mouthfeel is dry and WOW ABV. The taste complex and interesting.

Shared bottle, small group. Deep amber, nearly brown pour, medium off white head, some lacing. Light bourboned aroma, toffee, light vanilla all in a inviting aroma. Rich flavor too: toffee, light Bourbon, light vanilla, very light oak and woodsiness. Warming and satisfying.

Bottle pour at cellar temperature into a snifter - orange/red color with thin white head offering nice lacing. Aromas of toffee...tons and tons of toffee. The taste is a blend of caramal, oak, toffee, vanilla and a slight bourbon tinge. Ginger, anise, and dark fruit are present but not overpowering like so many other winter ales. I don't usually like winter warmers, but the barrel treatment really steps this one up a notch as the vanilla and oak complement the dark fruits of the base beer.

Aromas of wood, burbon, sweet caramel malts and a touch of citrus. Orange/ copper body, a thin ring for the head, with a tiny bit of spotty lace. Flavor starts with the burbon, vanilla, wood then a bit of alcohol shows at the end, the sweet malts and hops arent very noticeable. The finish is woody and dry, overall a pretty good winter warmer.
