Poured this root beer colored beer and immediately I could smell. Wine, oak and high alcohol without even lifting the glass to my nose. It has a real thick mouth feel and a noticeable zing. The taste is more wine, malt, plum and brown sugar.

surprise wish list item during a random Wednesday tasting. Rich tofee and caramel, ample bourbon and boozy flavors and aroma amidst a sweet fruity flavor. Little in the way of hops. Not balanced, but very tasty.

Reminds me more of a strong ale versus barleywine. Maybe I just prefer the straight barley kind without the barrel aging, although I have had quite a few barrel-aged beers that I like better than the regulars. This is just too sweet for me. I like bourbon, but it overpowers here (and the dates only add to the sweetness). May try their regular Blithering Idiot just to compare. Probably best to share this brew, as it was tough drinking all at once.

Pours a hazy amber with very little head. Strong aroma of sweet malts, bourbon and vanilla. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Taste is very similar to aroma although it gets a little too sweet for my liking. Plenty of alcohol throughout that lends to a pleasant warming sensation.

Pours a somewhat hazy amber, mahogany color with a thin head that leaves a ring for a good while before fading. The aroma is very rich with caramel, and dark fruit, mainly fig. Oak and vanilla are present as well. Overall it has a very sweet aroma. The taste is a overpowered by dark fruit and malt, and is very sweet. The alcohol is almost masked by the richness of the malt but the beer is full bodied with a creamy carbonation.

Been enjoying Insanity over the past four years or so, and it's always a nice sipper. Some years it really shines, but this year while good doesn't live up to some of the really spectacular batches. Relatively flat pour with a fizzy short head that ultimately leaves and some spotty lacing. Medium bodied and sweet with a sturdy boozy kick and a nice warming sensation. Upfront vanilla and wood followed by sweet fruity malts, whiskey, berries and bran.

Murky brown with fizzy head like a Belgian. Huge caramel nose, very sweet smelling. Very cloying sweet beer, burns on the back. Strong oak flavor but in a harsh way, lacks age and character. Weyerbacher seems to rush to the style instead of being patient.

An orange colored beer with a tight, foamy textured reddish-beige colored head rising robustly above. There's great hang time on this one. Settles into a thick ringlet. Fruity, ester nose. Brandied, oaken, high alcohol presence in the light medium bodied smooth beer.

Pours a hazy reddish-brown color with a nice initial tan head. Lots of bubbles and foamy patches remain on top. The aroma shows sherry, oak, plums, toffee and sweet candy. The flavor follows, I don't pick up more or less, perhaps less oak and more sweet toffee or caramel. Scattered lacing. Moderately sticky sweet but it's fine and not overbearing in small portions. More than half a bomber or so and it becomes a bit much. Very little alcohol sting showing for an 11% beer. It will warm you up though. Overall a solid sipper, straight forward, no wow factor, but a good drink.

It pours a nice clear mahogany with a thick but not persistent pale tan head. Aroma is more like a brandy than a beer, fruity with a strong alcohol overtone. Flavor is brandy-ish, strongly fruity with a hint of caramel and a strong alcohol bite. Texture is silky-smooth and very edgy - it practically burns on the way down, like hard liquor.
