Scottish ales are focused on the malt. Ours has an amazing depth of caramel malt flavor, with just a shade of roast/ chocolate notes in the background. To intensify the caramelization of malt sugars, 12 gallons of the first wort (future beer) were removed and reduced over 6 hours to 3 gallons of thick, decadent barley syrup! This went back into the main volume of wort in the kettle, and lends a complex richness to the beer Where are the hops? Hops don't grow in Scotland, and traditionally, brewers would have had to import them from the (hated) English. Consequently, Scottish styles evolved favoring malty sweetness, and are frugal on the hops. Because of its 8.0% abv strength, we're serving Wee Heavy in a 10 oz tulip glass. Enjoy!

My favorite beer of The Night of Wisconsin Beers, on tap @ Vintage with two of the Wisconsin Beer Mafia. Near black pour, in the proper glassware I might add, very tight light tan head, heavy lacing throughout. Uber-malty sweet aroma, molasses, nuts, slight peat, caramel, some breadiness. Tatse mimics the aroma: sweet toasted malts, peat, smidgen of smoke, molasses, slightly nutty... Just damn tasty. Glad I saved this one for last at our visit to Vintage. Thank you John and Travis - you guys rock and so does Vintage!

Deffinitely a malt bomb as advertised but left me thinking it was a bit one dimensional. The aroma was not overly scotch, more just malty and thin. The flavor is good but not great, again malt forward, slight alcohol presence and sweetness. It's certainly a wee bit heavy and not a bad beer but I do think they had better offerings on tap.

On tap at the Vintage. What a stellar scotch ale! A wee bit strong? Not at all! rich fruit flavors, soft subtle caramel, brown sugar and biscuity. Aroma is a little alcohol, fruit and sweet esters. Delightful beer that I can't wait to try again.
