Kasteel Tripel Aged in Cognac Casks. Thrill to that full, rounded taste, that delicate touch of cognac and the smooth, bitter aftertaste of this unique gourmet beer. Trignac is a real collector’s item. Only a limited edition of Trignac is brewed.

Shared 750 ml bottle, thanks to gunnar. Deep golden colour, large to moderate white head. Spicy and oaky aroma, slightly oxidised. Oaky flavour, again slightly oxidised, but not unpleasant. Decent bittering hops, some kandij sugar.

Pours clear golden with a nice buttercream head. Aroma provides sweet fruit, fresh malt and honey tones. Flavor yields sweet, fruity, honey and fresh malt notes. Texture features nice body and lively fizz. Don't 'gnac it, try it.

Perhaps I should rename this new discovery Trignac Kasteel Tripel. At any rate, this was a new discovery at a Pre-Christmas Christmas party where the gracious host gave me a bottle of this in appreciation for my playing Santa for the little people! I was most grateful, as Trignac XII has the usual characteristics of a solid Belgian Tripel, (malty, perfumy, heavy on the yeast and floral flavors), BUT with a slightly dry oaky finish (hence the aging). Man, this beer is some kind of strong. If you are lucky enough to find it, try it. But with a glass of water on stand by, as well!
