The definitive English Bitter. This fine, golden coloured beer, now restored to 3.8% ABV, has a full flavour that lingers pleasantly on the palate. With a good bitter-sweet balance this beer has a robust hop character described as citrus and spicy. It’s a refreshing and very satisfying pint – noted for the aroma of its Fuggles and dry hopping strain Golding to add to its characteristic Theakston aroma.

Cask. This is I suppose a fairly decent amber coloured beer, with balanced hops and malts and a light mouthfeel. But it just has far too little alcohol.

Flat amber in color with a very full head for a bitter. Aroma was a bit stale and non-distinctive. Nice lightly bitter flavor from the hops - malt was decent but a bit sour. A metallic note was present throughout - possibly from the can - strangely enough it wasn't really annoying. Re-reading this review it seems I didn't like it, but that wasn't the case. It did seem to be missing something though - not much charisma.

Cask conditioned in Northern England. Many British raters seem to hate this beer, but I found it as a very drinkable standard session bitter, with a decent maltiness and acceptable hops. Dusty finish. Maybe not a true masterpiece, but certainly not bad from a well kept cask.
