The Viking is a dark golden color with moderate hoppiness and hints of wildflower honey making this a delicious and unique winter warmer. Here again, The Depot brewery team has taken a classic beer style and changed it into something similar yet a distinct, new profile. With the same big alcohol notes of the classic style, we achieve this big character by using different malts from those traditionally used in barleywine. Instead of the darker toasted and roasted malts that bring in toffee and caramel flavors, we use lighter malts, such as Munich and Honey to bring out the sweeter side of the malt spectrum. All of this is balanced by a fair amount of hopping that compliments the beer, though you may hardly notice the hop character. Malt is the star of this beer.
