This one-time-only beer, a fascinating addition to our “Odd Beers for Odd Years” series, incorporates cinnamon, cardamom, clove, ginger, a dash of black pepper and a dose of black tea to emulate the aroma and taste of authentic chai tea. Combine these strikingly piquant ingredients with the classic version of Stone Imperial Russian Stout―with its incumbent flavors of chocolate, black currants, coffee and roastiness―and an already profoundly rewarding beer ascends to new, flavorful dimensions.

Rated June 2015. 22oz bomber pours up with a nice dark body that supports a tiny tan head. The aroma offers up coffee roastiness, chocolate and dark roasted to nearly burnt smelling malts with spicy earthy sort of black licorice flavored tea. The taste is smooth and rich with big dark roasted matliness blended into dark roasted coffee, some sweet molasses and an earthy chocolate sensation. To midway it gets spicier with spicy black licorice sort of chai tea earthy spiciness. Pretty solid as the spicy notes are there and fairly bold but they don’t overwhelm and crush the tasty roasty and chocolate notes.

Black colour with a big mocha head, good retention and creamy lacing. Spiced aromas of chai tea over roasted malts. The taste is much of the same with some hops in the finish, creating some nice dryness. The spices linger, but not overly rich, so very well-balanced overall. A very nice twist on their already great Imperial Russian Stout.

Ill preface this review with...my girlfriend picked this out. Pours thick and yummy. Super dark and foamy. Smells grainy with a hint of chai. Thick mouthfeel. Great taste until.... Wtf. Way too much chai guys. It's overwhelms everything else. Tastes like someone took a great stout, poured out half and replaced it with chai. Take my word for it and try the plain Russian stout.

Aromas of cinammon, vanilla, chai tea, and gingerbread, smells more like a winter type beer than a RIS.Standard black body with a thin mid tan cap that faded quickly under the 10.6% ABV. Flavor is just like the aroma, very heavy on the baking spices, the stout qualities are mute, with only some licorice coming in on the finish. Overall I love Stones RIS, and i love chai tea, but together.. eh..
