It’s my pleasure to present a collaboration with The Brewer’s Art. A Baltimore institution that helped to pioneer the Belgian beer movement in the States. Brewed with a combination of Spelt & Rye, accented with a blend of Heather, Honeysuckle, and Hyssop. The result is a rustic farmhouse ale displaying earthy tones & floral characteristics while maintaining intricate balance. NOTE: This is a different beer than the version brewed at Brewer’s Art.

750 ml bottle. Pours hazy golden yellow with a huge fizzy bubbly white head that retains well and leaves some lacing.
The aroma is toasted straw malts with some fruit, floral notes and funky yeast.
The flavor is sweet wheaty malts, some spices (coriander, pepper), a little fruit and earthy yeast with a bit of dry bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with sharp carbonation.
Overall, an OK sweet and spicy saison. -

Drawn hazy medium orange with a thin rim of a head and nice lacing. Low head probably due to the 5oz sample. Not overly carbonated. Has a lightly hoppy floral charcater with a hint of spice. Nice to the senses and great flavor(s) similar to aroma.

I definitely like the combination of rye and honey in the aroma and especially the flavor. Stillwater is interesting. They use a WIDE variety of ingredients but have a definite house flavor, and for the most part their bottled brews are overcarbonated. Pretty nice, though.

Sampled on 8/17/2011 at Beer Revolution. This Biere de Garde pours a slightly hazy medium orange gold color from the tap. Medium to large sized white foamy head, with nice retention. The aroma is fruity and sweet, spicy with a touch of tartness. A medium bodied Biere de Garde. The malts are fruity, yeasty and sweet. The hops are herbal and spicy. Nice carbonation. Clean and crisp tasting. Light and refreshing. A touch of spice lingers at the finish. Nice beer. Very easy drinking. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly tart.
