Old Potentate is a British style Old Ale made with Thomas Fawcett and & Sons Marris Otter malt as a base. British and Belgian Crystal malts round out the malt bill. The dominate hop profile is that of East Kent Golding. Both taste and aroma are of rich caramel, fruitcake and a slight nuttiness. Subtle spice and earthiness play a second role in the finish. The beer is very malty, but well balanced by the hops

A deep occluded amber colored beer with a tight, fluffy textured tan colored head. There's good hang time on the head. It settles into a thin ringlet. There's a roasted chocolate presence in the nose. Caramel bold in the tasting. Light bodued.

Aroma is pure Nestle Quick Chocolate Powder, I love that stuff, a touch of mocha malts as well. Body is a super murky, deep brown color, a few tan floaters that settle pretty fast, the head fits that previous description as well. Flavor is mostly chocolate malts, mouthfeel is smooth and dry, a touch of prickly carbonation. Overall not bad, drinkable but not great.
