A Bohemian Black Lager is a rare and delicious style of beer, referred to in Germany as "Schwarzbier". Shiner Bohemian Black Lager remains true to this old-world style by using imported Czech Saaz and Styrains Hops and select roasted malts to make it our darkest beer. First brewed to commemorate our 97th anniversary, this Bohemian Black Lager remains true to the old-world heritage of the German and Czech immigrants that settled Shiner. Prosit!

It pours black, that's better than the last Schwarzbier I had can say. The nose is very malty with vanilla and nuts. Taste is good, but I prefer my schwarzbier's a tad sweeter up front.

Purchased in Vermont, part of their tester mixed-pack. Pours a dark cola-brown colour with a creamy beige top, good retention and some creamy lacing. Aromas of mild roasted malts with hints of vanilla and caramel. Again, light roasted malts with watered-down caramel malts. Not really sweet, not bitter. Just a decent lager that goes down smoothly and with darker edge.

now just called "Shiner Bohemian Black Lager". Pours a very clear black with a sub one finger head that disappears fairly quick. Aroma is strong of roasted malts. Taste is very light compared to the color and aroma. not what you should expect from a Schwarzbier. Not much going on here.

Pitch black with small light brown foam head. Aroma is like cold charcoal /BBQ wood. Taste is like drinking a pal which has been filtered through charcoal. No aftertaste present. (Houston 201301)

This poured a nice black appearance with a beige head. The aroma contains some chocolate, marshmallows, and coffee. The flavor contained a roasted coffee and chocolate flavor. The palate is a bit thin and very dry. This is spot on to most good black lagers I’ve had with a slight knock on the palate. Overall this is a pretty darn good beer.

Different label these days. Porter-like pour. Aroma a little dusty, but underneath a good dose of roasted malts, coffee, toffee sweet. Aftertaste great...chocolate, roasted malts, a kiss of smoke. Smooth, thin. Possibly the best Shiner I've had.

Pours a black color. Smell is of roasted malts and coffee. Taste is coffee up front, malts, a touch of chocolate. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is an easy drinking and enjoyable beer.

This pours nice brown (almost black) with a nice tanish head that quickly disappears. The aroma is that of roasted malt, nuts, and licorice with a hint of sweet fruits. This beer is under carbonated with flavors of coffee, chocolate, light hops, tangy citrus, nuttiness, and mild spices.

Dark and opaque with tan head, this was a nice little surprise. The flavor was malty with hints of chocolate and solid mouthfeel. Its balanced with a hop that tends to be a little sharply bitter..kinda grabs you on the back of the tongue. It isn't wow, but it isn't bad either. I would buy it again when in the states.

This beer was a pleasant surprise as word of mouth has painted this brewery with a bad name. A nice cola black pour with a decent sized light brown head that lasts. Roasted malt, nuts, and licorice dominate the aroma with a hint of sweet fruits. The flavour is bitter with chocolate and nuts dominate, and a crisp finish.
