We are excited to announce our seasonal beer - Schell’s Chimney Sweep available from mid November through March! Dark and mysterious, with an intriguing wisp of smoke, a chimney sweep has long been considered a source of good luck. Schell’s Chimney Sweep draws its inspiration from these lucky individuals and the rich dark lagers of Upper Franconia in Germany. Expect a black lager with a roasty maltiness, sturdy hop bitterness and an underlying subtle smokiness. Schell’s Chimney Sweep... an intriguingly lucky black lager from the August Schell Brewing Company, Minnesota’s original craft brewer.

Pours a transparent brown/black with a one finger head that stays for a bit. Nice amount of carbonation in the glass. A very light aroma to it and is almost hard to detects what is in it but what I can find is hints of dark roasts and chocolate. Taste is very roasted with hints of burned wood. Also detect hints of nuts and some metal. Aftertaste is smokey and a tad sticky. The small head has not changed one bit, seems to regenerate itself. The lacing is massive and seems to stick to everything. Very interesting beer this one is. Now please bring back the 2009 Porter! :)

Nearly black pour with a tan head that fades quickly. Aroma of roasted malts and a touch of smoke. Taste is very similar but with a hint of fruit Mouthfeel is little thinner than expected. Average.

Bottle. Ruby highlights at the edge of the nearly black body make this a pretty one when held to light. There is long lasting light brown head on top. Toffee and tobacco notes are strong up front with some nice prunes behind it. This tastes like a sweet toff mixed with hints of cocoa. There is also some hint of minerals in the long finish. The nose was promising, but this is just a little to light for a schwarz in my eyes. Still, a nice effort.
