This ancient Finnish-style brew dates back to the 1500s as one of the oldest continuously brewed styles. Deep amber in color, this rugged brew’s distinctive aroma and flavor comes from aging on a bed of juniper berries. The herbal, woodsy, and ripe citrus character of the juniper enlivens a sturdy and smooth malt backbone for a fresh and flavorful brew. At Samuel Adams we love experimenting, This series of limited edition brews represents some of our favorite small batch creations.

    22oz bottle -

Being rated purely on enjoyment here. And enjoyable it was. Aroma had a really nice herbal tea-like quality to it, brown sugar and some-what woody. Moderately sweet, turbinado sugar, woody, herbaceous with a sticky palate. I have no idea if this is what a sahti is supposed to taste like, but it's a nice beer.

Didn't really know what to expect here but this was pretty decent. If I hadn't known about the juniper berries I don't know that I'd have guessed the flavor, its very subtle and deftly done. The aroma was fairly mild, just a bit of sweetness, all around this is a solid offering. I don't have any clue if this is what the Finn's are making but if it is I would like to try them.

Sampled on 6/9/2012. This sahti pours a medium copper reddish color from a 22oz bottle. Medium to small sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity, caramel and sweet, with some juniper and some wood. A medium bodied sahti. The malts are fruity and sweet, with some juniper and some wood. The hops are herbal and earthy. Touch of wood and juniper, and a touch sweet. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Pours a clear dark coppery brown, almost mahogany, with a thick, fluffy, buff head that sticks around and leaves some generous lacing. Malty aroma has a strong juniper overtone, almost like a menthol cough drop. Don't get me wrong - I like the smell of menthol cough drops! Malty flavor has a strong juniper note and hints of apple and wood. Firm-bodied texture is smooth, fizz leaves a little to be desired. Overall, though, a distinctive and worthwhile beer.

another fruity offering. heavier than the Verloren, and darker. Nice use of Juniper here. Ever present, never overbearing. Off set by an earthy, woodsie undertone and a slight dose of bittering hops. Enjoyed this as well, though I liked the Verloren slightly better.

Appearance is a dark, ruby-brown coloring with a off-white head that slowly settles into a filmy coating. Aromas of roasted caramel, maple, citrus and fruity highlights and a woody, earthy tone throughout. Flavors are a caramel malt backbone giving rise to some roasted and earthy characteristics, as well as some fruit notes.

Well, always happy to see these around.. Pours a deep copper .. medium headring .. very light lacing .. . very medicinal, dry twigs, juniper, and earth .. . decent bitterness level .. . nice stuff but nothing i'd ever ever buy again, was also hoping the juniper would come out more .. . . it doesn't matter how you find the pot of gold b-to-the-ryan, all that matters is that you beat the leprechauns ..
