This batch is a Scotch Ale. It has a smokey toffee nose with a flavor that is sweet and malty with a little spice on the front. A balanced smokey note is in this beer from start to finish, although it is never the dominant character. DR8 is a deep amber brown and pretty cloudy at the moment although it will clarify as it ages. As with all of our Divine Reserves, we expect this one to age nicely. This beer was inspired by Phillip Kaufman's winning entry in the 2009 Big Batch Brew Bash.

This beer sat around for a few months before I tried it - and that may have ruined it. The beer pours a hazy darek gold colour, with reddish hues, and a nice sized tan coloured head. The aroma os molasses, sweet malt, and some hops. The flavour is not as sweet as the aroma would imply, but still sweeter than your average beer.

Bottle: Poured a deep copper color ale with a large foamy head with OK retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of sweet caramelized malt is dominating with light toffee notes and some lingering smoke. Taste is sweeter then expected with loads of caramelized malt and sweet toffee with a light smoky finish. Body is quite full with limited filtration and good carbonation with no signs of alcohol. Well done though a bit sweet for my taste – bonus point for the smoke notes thought.

9/11/09 9:20am, purchased at Kroger, already chilled! another release another mad dash, but i opted for the one sixer this year.. . Pours a dark murky brown.. . fantastic medium strength head, looks great .. . smell is of plum, sweet alcohol, light burnt wood, and sweet molasses .. . wow, has quite a bite, should age wonderfully on that note.. . interesting blend of flavours, from rum to molasses and more plum/smoke .. . quite nice, ranges in many different directions.. . some time should do this well.. . i preferred #4 by a mile but this is still cool..
