Beer samples at Traquair House in Scotland were the genesis of our brewer's interest in beer creation. To honour this, Nineteenth (as in the nineteenth hole, another homage to Scotland's inventiveness) is a strong scotch ale released for our Grand Opening in April 2016. This beer is the "opposite of an IPA" - malty and tasty, but easy-drinking for its alcohol content.

Smaller 355ml can from the brewery on my first visit. Cola-looking brown colour with a beige head, average stay and some dirty tiny-spot lacing. Aromas of dark fruits over roasted malts and hints of vanilla at first. Some nuttiness comes out with hints of brown sugars. The taste has a balance of these, making the dark malts softer with some light sweetness, but not too much. And not syrupy. Maybe some notes of grapes and maple syrup. Apples as well. So, lots going one, but well-blended - seems like a lower alcohol Scotch Ale. But no. My favourite so far.
