Dedicated to Crustaceans! The Name sort of says it all. John Maier, our Brewmaster, wanted to create a beer that defied traditional style definitions. The result was a remarkably hoppy yet balanced and malty ale that quickly became a cult classic in our Newport brewpub. But what was it? It was not quite a barley wine and not quite a double or imperial IPA. Who really cares about putting beers into narrow categories? Great beer is great beer - just drink it and enjoy! Food Pairing: Seafood 8 Ingredients: Malts: Weyermann & Bohemian Malts Hops: Bravo, Ammarillo, Falconer's Flight & Horizon Water & Yeast: Free Range Coastal Water & Pacman Yeast

22 oz bottle. Pours hazy dark golden orange with a medium creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is fruity piney hops with some caramel malt and some alcohol.

The flavor is sweet fruity caramel malt with lots of resiny piney hops and some harsh fusel alcohol in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, nice fruit and hops but the harsh alcohol is a bit overbearing.

Pours a clear mahogany with a thick pale tan head. Aroma has yeasty, hoppy and fruity notes, not as strong as with some other BWs I have sampled but still inviting. Powerful flavor leaps onto the tongue like a tiger, assaulting the palate with hoppy and brandy notes, and an alcohol bite like a barleywine otter have. It leaves an alcohol finish with a hoppy underpinning and a hint of pear/cherry. Thick texture has a dusty hay feel and an alcohol chomp like an angry Rottweiler. Don’t be crabby - get crusty!

Bottle shared by ~~NGD. Dark amber brown color, tight short beige head, some spotty lacing. Rich sweet malty aroma and flavor upfront, lots of caramel and malts, then abundance mish-mash of hops, earthy then piney then just heavy, long bitter, almost syrupy and resiny. Big beer that is just a big beer.
