The Grim Reaper appeared like a vapor, sucking breath from all who crossed his path. To the traveler he held out a cruet of draught. "I am the bridge to beyond," hissed the apparition, as he pointed a bony finger to the horizon. "Only I know the taste from the other side." The traveler's eyes told the story of his wonder. "My world must know the unearthly tastes of The Netherworld." He carefully retraced his steps. Passing the still-silent guard, he turned to look once more through the gate, then vanished. There are those who swear he never heard The Gatekeeper's whispered farewell: "You'll be back..."

Poured a dark amber color with small head no lacing. Aroma was of strong aocohol caramel and something sour nasty smell. Flavor better, wrong just as bad. some wood in there and just awful almost couldn't finish my part, thanks to eagle for drinking more of this one.

Poured a brown-amber color with a weak initial head, no retention, no lacing. The aroma was alcohol, liquor, berries, caramel, sour brown sugar, maple, and who knows what else. This thing was off and sour? The flavor wasn't much better, kinda reminded me of a bad experience with Sam Adams' Triple Bock, nasty aftertaste for sure. Flavor was all of the aroma with maybe some oak or wood notes in there with some citrus. Mouthfeel was moderate and sticky, but I couldn't get past the aftertaste. Thanks to Cottrell for the opportunity for sure!

pours a light bordeaux colour and a little persistant foam, notes of grape in the nose, touch of cherry, solid malt body with a decent bitterness, dry aftertaste

Poured a hazy, reddish brown color with a thin, off white head that left no lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, oxidation, citrus fruits, and light alcohol. Taste of cherries, caramel malts, and light citrus, some faint alcohol in the background. Mouthfeel was thin.

This is really something remarkable. The brewer put this away by the caseloads, and released them just recently. They have aged rather remarkably. The brewery stopped brewing in January 2001, so this is aged about 3 years now. I picked up 5-12.oz bottles recently, for 2.99 each. I'm glad to say it was well worth it. The hops that were prevalent at one time have dropped out, and left a malty and alcoholic smell. The taste is mostly malt, with hop remnants. A unique and quality brew, that is definitely worth seeking out if you live in CT or a surrounding state.
