According to Egyptian mythology, beer colored with red ochre was used to pacify an angry goddess and save the world from destruction. But according to Doug Odell, it needed some hops. The Odell brewers went to work creating the recipe on the brewery’s five barrel system, adding hand selected whole flower hops to the recipe rooted in ancient Egypt. The result is a ruby red beer with a mouthful of malt and hop flavor. (8.0% alcohol by volume).

Pours a dark amber with perfect clarity and a small, scattered head. Light malty aroma with some ripe, fruit notes. Malt dominates the flavor, which is decent, but not particularly complex or interesting. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation and gentle warming affect.

WOW.... I was surprised by this tasty brew. Pours into your Glass a very nice and Vibrant Auburn color with little to no head. Smells of pine and malt a bit of burnt sugar. Medium body with nice palette appeal. Flavor is mildly sweet upfront with a great Fresh hops finish.. Very Clean and Smooth. Truly a great BEER..
Food Pairing: Pecan and Maple Crusted Pork Loin. Bourbon and Bleu Cheese yam Mash. Cumin Kissed Carrots.

Tasted at Noogfest 4.0 (2008). This American Strong Ale pours a red amber color from a 12oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel and hops. A medium bodied American Strong Ale. The malts are caramel and sweet. Some roasted malts as well. The hops are grapefruity and citrusy. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Mouthfeel is full. Finish si clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Bottle courtesy of Beernadblues2: Poured a deep red/brown color ale with a quite large foamy head with adequate retention. Aroma of medium citrus hops with some weak caramel malt. Taste consists of semi-sweet caramel malt with some medium citrus and bitter hops. Body is about average with some medium carbonation and no sign of alcohol. Overall, I thought this was a light version of an American strong ale and definitely lacking on character to make it truly worthwhile.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark ruby red with a frothy light tan head that diminishes to a film.
The aroma is fresh hops, slightly fruity, with a little nutty caramel and some tinges of DMS.
The flavor is sweet nutty caramel malts with a good sized bitter hop finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full and smooth.
Overall, a very fine beer. I'm surprised by the amount of hops in an Odell beer.
