Every year we age a special batch of our much-loved Russian Imperial Stout in Bourbon barrels. The depth, intensity, and complexity of the flavor profile of this special release, like its predecessors, make it a worthy tribute to Old Rasputin. Prior to 2010, Barrel-Aged Old Rasputin was released in such limited quantities that it was available only at the North Coast Brewing retail shop in Fort Bragg, California. However, we received so many requests for this beer that we began producing enough Barrel-Aged Old Rasputin to put into broader, but still limited, distribution.

Comes out of the tap a deep, warm sable with a very fine-bubbled tan head, almost identical to a perfectly poured Guinness. Head leaves very generous lacing, almost completely covering the inside of the glass. Rich, smoky aroma has notes of licorice, coffee and semi-sweet chocolate plus a hint of molasses. Flavor floods the palate with roast malt, mocha, molasses and licorice and even a little bit of hops. Velvety smooth texture leaves a persistent fizz and a smoky mocha finish. Have it Nitro!

This years blend is a little more bourbon heavy and a little less hoppy/complex as the perfection that was XIV, but still damn awesome. This beer is so smooth the fact that its a little thinner than many BB stouts is completely irrelevant. So bourbony roasty delicious. I look forward to spending $20 on this each year...

500 ml cork and caged bottle poured into a snifter at cellar temperature. Attractive deep black with a nice thick head. Beautiful aromas of earthy wood, licorice, and smoke. WOW. I liked XVI a ton and unfortunately didn't review it this fresh. Wonderful flavors of vanilla and oak give way to tobacco, cocoa, slight smoke, molasses, and brown sugar. This is barreled to perfection. It is slightly hot young, but is truly a great experience. Phenomenal beer.
