(bought at Ledger’s Liquors, In Berkeley) Pours a thick, very tall tan head. Does start to fall, but leaves lots of lace on the side of the glass. Absolutely no light penetrates my glass. Nice aroma, reminiscent of Old Rasputin. Flavor is somewhat reminiscent of Old Rasputin too (if you can’t tell, that’s my benchmark for imperial stouts!!). Alcohol taste with lots with a grainy mouthfeel to it. Alcohol and roasted grains/coffe on the palate in the aftertaste. A little too harsh for me. Perhaps not as sweet a finish as Old Rasputin though. Kinda steep for a 550ml bottle ($9!) so I wouldn’t necessarily buy it again, though I’m going to make my way through the other Nogne offerings that Ledger’s brought in, providing they’re still there the next time I try them. ANYONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN THIS CAN EMAIL ME A TRADE FOR SOME OTHER IMPERIAL STOUT OR BARLEYWINE.

0.5L bottle poured dark dark black with nice brown head. The aroma remained somewhat light and starts with a note of alcohol. Then the burnt maltiness takes over with an undercurrent of sweet molasses like malts. The taste begins with carbonation enhanced burnt malts and coffee. The flavor then becomes increasingly more chocolate like. At first it seems somewhat milk chocolate but then quickly becomes velvety rich dark chocolate. I taste nothing that hints at this brew’s ABV. In the after taste the burnt malts return to join the rich smooth chocolate for a pleasing sensation. Very nice stout.

Bottle. Alomst black with a brown head. Rasty coffee and chocolate aroma. Very well balanced beer, the sweetness and bitterness is almost a perfect match. Nice bitter finish.

Bottle thanks to mcbackus: Poured a dark oil filled black with a light brown head. Aroma is thick with chocolate and roasted coffee. Taste is that of a roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and a smooth oat finish.

Aroma is rich and mouth-watering - "stouty" and smoky with strong tones of unsweet chocolate and fine coffee and a touch of miso. It pours an opaque sable that is just two cat whiskers above black with a very thick, dark tan head that hangs around for a bit. Rich flavor is what I expect of a stout, having strong tones of roast high-quality coffee and unsweetened chocolate, with just a whisper of molasses. Texture is very thick, sharp and fizzy. Worth seeking!

Really enjoyed this black beauty. Lots of malt and roasted barley. Little bit of licorice and chocolate. This ain’t mead but I bet those Vikings would have liked it.

Pours a pitch black with a tiny head that goes away instantly. Aroma is very intense with roasted malts, chocolate, and coffee. notice a little fig to it as well on the nose. For an imperial the taste is actually fairly mellow with hints of roasted malts and coffee. Slight booze at the end. Sticky ending. I like it.

Initial pour looks great. Black body with a large brown head. Head settles to leave a thin cap and not much lace. Rich aroma of roasted malt and espresso. Strong roasted malt flavour. Dark chocolate, espresso, licorice and a little bitterness. Would expect a fuller mouthfeel from a beer with such a robust flavour. More please.
