Pours a deep black .. no real sticking foam, light ring .. . hang on .. lots of booze, charcoal, instant coffee, and tar .. . pretty tasty stuff, could easily do a couple of bottles in a night, this will age beautifully! .. . . If someone from Iceland married someone from Cuba, would the children be ice cubes?

Wow cheaper than I expected to pay, bought at Beermongers Portland. Wicked aroma, reminds me instantly of Tokyo. Obvious sweetness, light coffee of a fruity, chocolate variety. Something like super savory plum sauce. I can't believe this is 100 IBUs and this sweet. The texture in the mouth is like syrup, there is a hint of maple. A hint of coffee, but just barely. Black colour, reasonable head retention for 15%. Talking to some guys in portland about coffee nerdery, I feel like this coffee must have been cold steeped, as there is nothing bitter coffee at all, which detracts from how I imagine the beer could be. The bottling and presentation is top notch, and it looks like a complex drink in the glass. Some resin in the aftertaste. I will quote rainman,"if you like kaluhua this is a beer for you". I second that notion, would be interesting to see what kind of beer based cocktails could be built around this. I want to draw more comparisons to Tokyo, in that both are similar to be, but the biscuit like malts in tokyo are not present here, and the bitterness has not matched the bigness of the beer here either, which is why I have a case of Tokyos and one of these. The only disappointing beer I have had from Nonge at this point, 12 beers in or so.

sweet Jebus, they went sweeter. less char than volume 2 and the coffee is up front and center as opposed to in the background. overly sweetened coffee is the aroma and flavor, with some raisiny mollasses going on as well. more bitter at 100 ibus than sweet or red, which is nice, with a slight roasted malt character under the 15.5% abv. nice sipper...still too expensive...but i didn't buy it :)

Also from a metal cylinder, but no batch # present. Pours pitch black with a bit of head. Aroma is COFFEE. Like...old...cold...coffee. Mouthfeel is sticky sweet. Flavor is COFFEE COFFEE COFFEE and sweet. This would make an excellent after dinner beer. If you like Kaluha, this is for you.

This is an awefull beer. It leaves you not wanting to drink anymore. The only good thing about it is appearance and mouthfeel, other than that this is one to miss.

250 ml bottle, wrapped in silk paper in a metal cylinder, from Vinmonopolet. Batch #373, ABV is 15.5%. Ingredients include sugars and coffee. 100 IBU. Pitch black colour, moderate greyish brown head. Strong aroma of stale cold coffee, roasted barley and dark bitter chocolate. Warming mouthfeel. Very sweet (too sweet) and sugary flavour, notes of sweetened coffee, syrup, chocolate and liquorice. The bitterness seems quite moderate, because of the overwhelming sweetness. Hints of resin in the aftertaste. Well worth sampling, but this is the least successful edition of Dark Horizon so far. Won’t buy again, as it is also quite expensive..
