Our 2012 Barley Wine bridges continents of style, a harmonious creation of Diploma Master Brewer Daniel Carey. He personally chose the hop fields that were harvested for this powerful beast of a brew. Styrian Golding, Willamette, Columbia, and Sterling with bold citrus and resin notes. All perfectly balanced with toasty graham cracker flavors of floor malted barley. Savor this very big beer at 45° F and it will reward you with an open embrace.

well, the iced barleywine was awesome fresh then garbage after a year- not sure what i thought about this one .. . pours gold .. light to medium foam .. . woah, this isn't a barleywine, more like a double ipa- and its awesome! .. don't age this, so good now .. . . I dropped out of communism class because of lousy Marx.

Light amber pour with plenty of white head. Aroma of sweet, caramel malts with just a little citrus in the background. Taste is sweet (close to cloying); surprisingly low bitterness for a "fresh" American barleywine. Overall, somewhat mild--maybe a good introduction to the style.

A pale copper body with a thin foamy head and splotchy lacing, the body of this beer is lighter than your standard barley wine. Vinous and fruity set against a medium and neutral malt body providing some biscuit and toast to offset the light and refreshing floral hop notes. Real smooth and nice to sip on, with a fantastic balance. Another gem from heybeerman, and a wonderfully unique take on this style.

Thanks for sharing, pfoxyjohn! This pours a surprisingly orange light amber body with a bright white head. The nose is grainy and doughy with some hay and oranges. The taste is fairly sweet with lots of caramel and a little bit of leather. There is also some old book character along with some bread crust and even a little bit of spicy hops. The citrus and raw sugar bring up the back end. Tasty and a little boozy, this is a nice warmer.

rarely do I keep a beer I've had (and that is not available in the local market) on my wishlist, but this is a keeper. Thanks Lou! I couldn't imagine that this would match, or perhaps even top, the Unpugged Iced Barleywine, but it did. It's like a Sam Adams Griffins Bow (unique in it's lighter color and palate, while still being hefty, and full flavored) perfected. Citrus hops and vanilla!! I had to read the label to see if this was oaked (it was not) but damn was it delicious. One of my favorite NG beers...ridiculously drinkable for a 12% brew. I dreamt this was a bomber last night. 6/12 - oddly showing more heat with more time in the bottle, still awesome, between 4.4 and 4.5.

Another New Glarus beer, this one from phishpond. Deep reddish amber brown pour, thin tight tan head, good lacing. Big ripe fruit and alcohol aroma, rich and almost woodsy, caramel and toffee, big nose. Flavor is big too: rich heavy sweet malts, earthy ripe fruits, caramel, booze but not overwhelmingly so, rich and warming. Just another top-notch New Glarus beer, that is all. Everything they do amazes me. Never a disappointment. Thanks again Travis for this Big Beauty.

Not what I was expecting at all, but very pleased with what I had. I was shocked at the clarity, carbonation and hop presence. Almost barley wine meets west coast IIPA. Certainly not nearly the hop presence for an IIPA but far more than I was expecting from a barley wine! Delicious. I’ll be picking more of this up in the near future.

A very young beer right now. Really nice, and well crafted- but the hotness of this beer and overpowering richness of the caramel makes me think this brew ought to sit for a while. 6 months at least. Pours a clear well carbonated orange. Big boozey nose. Hoppy, lots of caramel and syrupy sweetness up front. Definitely needs to sit before I have another one.

The clearest and most fizzy barleywine I have seen. Reddish orange color, thick caramel aroma with a touch of hops and sweet clean fruit. Thick coating mouthfeel with a nice burn as it goes down. A mild flavored barleywine but very well balanced and easy to enjoy.
