Barley Wines are big beers! In fact this is the strongest beer we have ever brewed for our friends here in Wisconsin. This beer is "malt accented" so we searched the world and found the richest, most expensive barley varieties we could find. We bought the best barley available not only here in the United States but in Belgium, Germany and Scotland. You can thank Scottish farmers for growing Golden Promise barley because we used bushels of it in this beer to yield a full and rich flavor. We sourced hops from the United States and Germany but again turned to the UK for our signature hop, "East Kent Golding". This ale is fermented in this bottle and is suitable for laying down. It is so strong that we guess it will continue to improve for years!

First off, I love barleywines. American b-wines, English b-wines. Doesn't matter much to me. This was just a so-so barleywine. A fairly oxidized nose with a bit of sugar and toffee and not much else (couldn't drill past the oxidation). Flavor was definitely sweet, some brown sugar and toffee were the main players and it was a bit alcoholic. Decent beer.

POurs with a reddish-orange body topped by a medium thick head with some lacing. It’s sweet, malty and toffeish with a touch of candy sugar and a slight hint of hops underneath. Medium to full bodied, smooth and warming.

Poured from a bottle to a clear copper color. Has a very nice carmel and malt flavor followed up with alcohol taste to it. This is a barley wine that I would drink again and again.

For the price, this barleywine is a great deal. Definately English in character and seems almost pre-cellared if you will. Very malty in the nose, with bits of hot alcohol poking through. Some date and fig like notes in the aroma. Slightly, slightly thinner mouthfeel than expected. Well carbonated and laced very well for a barleywine. Very very clear and a deep sienna color. Great value and a nice English style Barleywine.

I am impressed with this English style barley wine. Glad I got myself a couple six packs for a very reasonable price. The body is a dark orange and is very clear with no head at all. The aroma has caramel and booze. There is also booze and a little sour apple. The taste is crisp with fall leaves and brown sugar. You also get some toffee. This has a fairly sweet finish. I will be returning to this winner occasionally to see how it ages.
