I was really looking forward to trying this beer. Maybe it was because of the name. Maybe it was because of all of the medals described on the label. I've tried other Moylan's beers and found them mediocre so I don't know why I'm so excited about this one. It had the thinnest pour I've ever seen. Dirt amber color with almost no foam. Very slight grain smell. Maybe some must and brown sugar. On the side of this beer in large, red font is, "LIVE ALE ! KEEP REFRIGERATED" I've never seen this before, but seeing how I bought it off of the shelf, I am now a little alarmed. The taste is of sour vomit. It is astringent and constricts my esophagus.I am afraid I will be sick if I take another drink. This is one of the only beers I've ever poured out. This nasty drink ruined my evening. I'm pretty sure it will ruin yours too.

Sampled on draft at Pete's. Pours clear dark brown. Pours clear mahogany with a thin creamy, light-tan head. Sweet malty aroma and flavor. Rich caramel and bread in both. Full-bodied and smooth. Good winter sipper.

I know I've had this before in bottles back in Wisc. But had it recently again at Moylan's in Novato. Pours a dull amber colour, nice head. Nose is saturated with caramel malt, firm hops and peaty goodness. Taste is similar. Very rich, semi sweet but full big bodied flavors.

On tap at the wurst haus in lake Jackson a little bread in the aroma and not much else. Body is a deep slightly murkey red, mouthfeel is on the full side and smooth. Flavors of bready malts with a little sweetness in the end. Overall it's o.k., decent enough.

I love scottish ale. This was a great brew. It was very sweet in the mouth with an almost syrup consistency. It was easy to drink and had a nice nutty smokey flavor that held in the sweet alcohol into. Caution: this packs a punch. After just one bottle, i was already buzzing and then add some Guiness foreign stout, i was a lil tipsy. I will by this the next time im in the store i was found it in.

Pours a nice iced tea color with a HUGE head if you aren't careful. Moderate lacing. Mouthfeel is pretty sweet. Flavor is pretty sweet. I agree this one is as unbalanced as many ex-girlfriends. Sugar, sugar.

Solid. The aroma is far stronger than the flavor, but not a big turn-off. The our is a slightly deeper than medium amber with a thin off white head. Lacing is fair, but nothing grand. The flavor is sligthly on the sweet side with caramel - very nice. I think this one would pair well with a good bowl of chili.

Aroma is fairly strong, malty and yeasty with a firm undertone of caramel, rather sweet. It pours a clear mahogany brown with a fairly thick but not persistent off-white head. Flavor is malty with a strong burnt caramel overtone and nutty and yeasty hints. Texture is quite smooth and has a bit of a nip to it, almost like a barleywine.

Guessing I might have a bad bottle here since it tastes almost nothing like a scottish ale. Pours a dark copper with a lingering off-white head. Some malt in the aroma but nearly as much as I expected. Taste is where it goes wrong for the style--there's a strong sour fruit flavor that dominates everything else. The odd thing is that I kind of like it but it would be nice to try another bottle that isn't so funky.
