The recipe for this beer is as simple as a child’s finger painting: you take one of the world’s highest rated beers – that’s the one called Brunch – and then you let it splash about in a totally fresh cognac barrel for three months. After that it’s a question of out of the barrel, into a bottle and off you go.

Pours an absolutely beautiful inky sable with a thick, dark tan head that hangs around for a while. Rich aroma has a strong note of quality roast coffee and tones of licorice, molasses, chocolate and nuts. Fabulous flavor lives up to the scrumptious aroma - smoky, nutty, with good tones of coffee, chocolate, licorice and wood and an underpinning of cognac that gives it quite a kick. Thick, smooth, oily texture doesn’t have much fizz, but leaves a smoky and cognac-y finish. If you love good stouts, especially barrel-aged ones, this one is a must!

Dark chocolate brown, with a thin brown film floating on top. Sweet aroma with heavy alcohol but high quality heavy alcohol. The cognac has permeated every single molecule of this aroma. Chocolaty malts in the aroma with hint of coffee. SO MUCH BOOZE!!! Taste is not as epic but still awesome. Cold coffee with whiskey...just like your molester uncle use to drink. Sweet alcohol coats the throat with every sip......raspberry maybe. My my that was good

Yes, this is expensive. Yes, this is bottled in the small Nogne bottles. However, it's one of the best coffee stouts and this time it is aged in cognac barrels. I poured my small little bottle into a snifter at cellar temparture. Aromas of dark chocolate, coffee, and booze, strikingly similar to the base beer. The mouthfeel is thick, smooth, and perfectly carbonated. Absolute phenomenal taste, loads of dark coffee, roasted malts, chocolate, and a strong finish of sweet liquor. The barrel treatment really accenuates the base beer. I've had the Calvados edition, too, and while that is awesome the Cognac edition is simply a marvel. Well done, Mikkeller.

Phenomenal! Unique combination of flavors...that wonderful poo coffee up front still, which is awesome, and the harmonious blend of cognac and sweet roasted chocolate malt. LOVE this beer! As smooth as the BGBW I've had (which is one of my very favorite beers). Pricey, but worth it!
