The recipe was originally designed with Mike McGuire, a local homebrewer and member of both the BURP and Worthogs local homebrewing clubs, when the original recipe took Best of Show at the homebrew competition Spirit of Free Beer put on by BURP in 2004. The malt bill is comprised of imported English pale, crystal, brown, and black malts and a good amount of roasted barley and flaked oats. Hopping is a very generous helping of English variety First Gold. This is a big and very flavorful beer.

Smooth and rich - like a really good cup of coffee.... Deep brown with nice lacing. Deep tan, fluffy head. Lightly sweet with substantial malt back. Flavor intensifies as it warms.

Picked up a growler at Mad Fox for a Super Football 2014 party with some BeerPals. Opaque coffee color with brown lace. Sweet and sour aroma, candy and smoke, hops are a lightly floral note on top. Flavor is also sweet and sour char, not overly acidic. The bitter floats on top of a big malt backbone. Naturally better when warm. Very smooth and heavy with light carbonation.
