Laverstoke Organic Ale & Lager http://www.laverstokepark.co.uk/ale This traditional bottle conditioned ale has a remarkably full flavour and has been produced by master brewers utilising the traditional hops and barley grown on the farm. We now also produce an organic Real Lager brewed in a similar way to our ale and brewed with ingredients grown on the farm. Both the ale and the lager have been featured in CAMRA's beer club. We have collected and grown old traditional hop varieties and selected the best combination of these for their aroma, and balanced them with additional organic hops, in this, our first beer. We are biodynamic and organic and go much further than both to produce excellent, flavoursome hops and barley. Our micro-biology lab continuously tests the soils, adding compost and compost teas so that the biology in the soil has the right proportions of beneficial bacteria and fungi for the hops and barley to be at their best and most flavoursome. This creates the deep flavours of the beer. Currently available in most branches of Waitrose, selected branches of Sainsbury's and at our farm shop in Overton, Hampshireand is now also available on-line.

This organic ale pours a copper colored body with a very slight haze. An off-white foam coats the surface and leves some pretty decent lace. Aromas of caramel malts fruity esters and spicy or grassy hops. Flavors of caramel sweetness, biscuity/bready taste. Rich malt flavors are balanced by spicy, earthy, grass flavored hops while contributing a smooth and balanced bitterness. Overall not bad for an organic beer.

An cloudy orange colored beer with a really impressively big frothy textured, white head rising robustly above. There's great hang time on this one, settling into thick globs of froth atop the body. The nose is light, mostly bread. The low point of the assessment. The tasting though brings forth a nice balance of bread and citric-grass hops. Overall the body is medium to thick. A nicely crafted beer.
