When I first tasted this beer it hit the tip of my tongue and I said, "Yes, that's a definite barleywine, strong malt character, but as it splashed over the rest of my tongue there is only one word to describe the rest of the flavor: BACON! BACON! BACON! I have never had a beer that actually tastes like bacon. Bacon smothered in sweet malt. Smokey crisp bacon. The nose has bacon. This is the only beer I recommend to have with pancakes. Yum!

pretty much the aroma and flavors you'd expect from the style, but nothing really stood out. definitely on the dark side with a little toffee and dark fruit aroma, similar taste with some caramel as well and a bit of alcohol. medium bodied. just ok for a barlwywine.

06.07.05 12oz bottle, trade, thanks to footbalm. Clouded maple pour under thin tan head. Unusual aroma of caramelized banana, orange marmalade, brown sugar, spiced rum, and something along the lines of a honey-lemon cough drop. Weird, but good. Flavor is less complex but equally good with plenty of dark toffee, nougat, some milk chocolate, and all offset by an intriguing heat from bitter hops and biting alcohol. Underlying notes of roasty nuts and mild coffee. Could certainly improve with age to mellow out the rather sharp finish. A treat, and a nice surprise. Thanks Eric!

Dark amber brown color. Hardly any head at all. First wiff is alcohol. The brew is very strong and one or two is the max, however is a great sipping beer for a cold winter night. Not one for Barleywine but this was good.

Solid brown color with clinging bubbles and untra thin tan head that looks like any river in Newark, NJ. Wonderful caramel aroma. Taste is a bit sticky sweet, warming alcohol, and bourbon. The website says 100 cases were brewed in late 1999 and bottle aged until release of Nov 2000. I’m glad I poured 1/2 a glass before reading LEAVE SEDIMENT BEHIND. I guess my luck with beer continues! Anyway, although this isn’t the best Barley Wine out there, it’s a good one. Thanks Robertsreality for throwing this Bad Boy in as a bonus.

This brew pours with a dark amber brown body topped by a thin head with some lacing. The aroma is sweet, malty and full of brown sugar with a touch of caramel and a little alcohol. The flavor is slightly sweet and malty with a touch of brown sugar and a nice hoppy bitterness. Full bodied and smooth.
