Ale Brewed with Coffee and then Aged in High West Whiskey Barrels This beer couldn’t have been done without the help from our friends at High West Distillery in Park City, UT and Chicago’s-own Metropolis Coffee. We brewed a rich, malty Imperial Stout with some of Metropolis’ Spice Island blend, then let it vintag-ize in High West Rye and Bourbon Barrels for up to 17 FREAKING MONTHS. It’s good to have friends!

Poured up on tap at Beer Craft in Rohnert Park where it exhibits a deep dark mahogany colored body that supports a tan head. The aroma offers up inviting chocolate, some vanilla, whiskey heat and then a caramel and dark roasted malt sensation. The taste delivers chocolate, dark roasted malts, some dark roasted coffee, a dash of caramel and then fairly smooth whiskey booze. Solid sipper yet a bit barrel forward for my taste.

(12oz. bottle) - Pours a huge three finger tan head. But, it’s collapsing right in front of my eyes, leaving a fair amount of lace inside the glass. Dark brownish-black body. Boozy aroma of cocoa and freshly ground medium roast coffee. What an amazing flavor!! Toasted coconut with lightly roasted grains. Just the right amount of hop bitterness on the back end. Mouth feel tells you you’re sipping something with a bit of oomph to it. Not a log of alcohol lingering in the after taste. I don’t smoke cigars. But, this would definitely be classified as a good one to pair with something on the heavy side like a Maduro. Really glad they packaged this as a six-pack rather than a bomber so it will last a lot longer. At $11.99/6-pk this is a steal!!

On tap at Falling Rock during GABF weekend, listed as Higher-West Cappuccino Stout (Aged in High West Rye Barrels) @ 13.7%
Black with a small tan head and good lacing. Aroma of whiskey, woody, vanilla and coffee. Tastes full of whiskey, woody, oak and coffee
Wow, glad I was able to get a glass of this one. -

Large, tan head, lasting with good lace. Black with brown edging. Milk chocolate, roast and light booze aromas. Med/full bodied, oily palate, soft carbonation. Rich, roasty malts, licorice, light whiskey and vanilla. Finish is surprisingly dry, considering. Nice roast, slight coffee and caramel. Bomber from statelineliquors.

Bottle thanks to AKfaust: Poured a pitch black with beige head. Strong bourbon alcohol burn with coffee bean. Taste is an awesome blend of bourbon, rye whiskey heat and strong espresso coffee, warms the core with a burn.

Taps opaque coffee sable with a serviceable tan head. Aroma offers roast coffee, whisky, roast malt, woody and molasses tones. Flavor delivers roast malt, quality coffee, whisky, woody, molasses and chocolate tones for a singular stout. Mouthfeel presents thick body and lively fizz. Go high and west!
