Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8
Pours totally opaque muddy amber with thin off white head. The aroma has inviting and drool inducing levels of caramel candy followed by plums, raisins, some spicy maple, black strap molasses and a bit of expected heat at the end of the draw. The taste is pretty lively and comes across as a mix of Baladin Xyauyù, champagne and white oak aged whiskey. It offers up firm levels of ripe red apple drizzled with caramel, plums, raisins and simmered and reduced strawberries. It then flows into ample amounts of fresh oak that really isn’t the typically robust spicy oak but rather it is smoother with subtle spicy oak notes. Maybe this huge beer has absorbed some of the wood spiciness. Into the finish spicy yeast and spicy oak pick up in their intensity to the point that they shoulder in amongst the thicket of sweet fruity esteriness. From time to time it also picks up an extra boost of whiskey to almost a sweet rum like sense. Tasty brew great sipper.
