Pours with a light beige head on a dark amber beer. Aroma is of smooth malt along with a smoky background leading to a mouthful of deep, roasted malt flavor. Ends long and smooth with a sweet malt aftertaste.

This one was the last beer I tasted on my trip around the beer list at Humpy's in Anchorage, AK. I wanted to end the evening off with something a little bit destructive to my palate, as I knew I was going to be eating some meat or fish for dinner. My choice was Kenai River's Skilak Scottish Ale.

This one wasn't a bad choice. It was brought out in a pint glass, looking nice and dark brown, with a creamy looking dirty tan head on it. The head was a good finger and a half thick and looked tasty. The smell had somewhat of a smoky roasted malt to it that was very representative of this style of beer.

I liked the flavor quite a bit. From the start it was a smooth drink, bordering on an "almost creamy" beverage. It had a nice subtle smokeyness to the malt. I liked this a lot because it was not overpowering and you could really pick out the sweet roasted malt flavor to it. The aftertaste was a little on the strong side, but still I enjoyed drinking it.

Since this was my first venture into the Kenai River Brewing Company products, I'm fairly impressed. Had it not been summer in the land of the midnight sun, I might have even given this one higher ratings since this was a solidly crafted beer. Only problem was that it's warm out and drinking Scottish ales is something I usually reserve for winter. So I'll have to check this one out again at a later date.
