Description A rich, malty seasonal ale brewed every fall for the winter months, this ale is made with four different malts, Nugget & Hallertau hops, and a complex blend of spices. It is named for John Mitchell, Howe Sound's original brewer. Food Pairing The spiced flavours of the Winter Ale make it a great accompaniment with hearty meals and desserts and aged cheeses, nuts and Christmas specialties. Our Bottle This re-closable bottle, known as a “pot-stopper”, was widely used in Europe and North America prior to the 1950s. Our new combination cap is an innovative design that allows closure by both crown and swing caps. It can be re-used and meets our green packaging objectives.

WOW! Great bottle, as usual, great price, great brew! Dare I say Rochefort Trappiste 8, esq...... Malty, spicy, fruity, touch bready, well balanced, great mouthfeel, little bitter, little sweet. Had warm = good. Had cold = goood, had freezing cold with slushie bits of ice beacause it was resealed and we continued to snowshoe, still amazing!!! In seriousness, I can barley believe this comes from Howe Sound, does not desplay any of the wateryness I find traces of in most beers produced there. YES!

Love these giant bottles with the flip tops they always make me smile. Oh man this smells good. Cloudy brown body with an average looking cap, nice and long lasting though. Mmmm……smells like baking and memories of Christmas past. Nutmeg, cloves, vanilla, honey all can be tasted all built on a thick chewy malty back bone. Brew almost has eggnog like flavours but not really. A mild coffee like bitterness is noticeable in the finish. Great Christmas brew, highly enjoyable, perfect on a cold winter day infront of the T.V.

Love those wonderful one-litre swing top bottles so favoured by Howe Sound! A creamy tan head started out at perhaps two fingers in depth, and then fell away, slowly, to a quarter-inch, all this taking some five minutes. The body was a lovely dark amber, and the aroma was malt, spices, and a suggestion of dark fruit. Much the same for the taste, along with a mouthfeel I can only class as "solid". Finished smooth with just a hint of sweetness. THis is my new favourite Christmas season beer.
