    2006 Bottling; Sampled May 2008
This has been sitting at the back of my fridge for quite some time now, don't know why I never got to it but…

A vigorous pour produces a three finger thick, tan colored head that just rises above the rim of my 25cl tulip glass. The beer is a clear, rich amber hue that shows a brilliantly clear copper-amber color when held up to the light. The aroma is fruity with just a touch of a spice edge to it. Aromas of cherries, mahleb perhaps, berries, woody pepper and a touch of earthy spiciness. A touch of age is perhaps just noticeable, it really adds only a touch of Port-like aromas.

Smooth and creamy up front, but it quickly becomes a bit fizzy as it rolls across the tongue. It finishes with a hot alcohol note and a bit of astringency that is accentuated by the same. A berry-like fruitiness is found in towards the front and middle of this beer before the astringency and hot alcohol in the finish drown it out. A touch of toasty malt towards the finish almost seems to have a touch of roast character to it (but that might just be the alcohol influence again). This is probably more fruity than anything with flavors that remind me of cherries, currants and perhaps a touch of pomegranate (this last not nearly as distinct as one might expect). This is not super heavy bodied for a beer of this strength, but does have some heft to it.

I am surprised how present the alcohol is still, I would have figured after two years it would have mellowed out some. I am really disappointed in this beer, despite the fact that I held on to it for so long, it is worse than I expected. This could still age quite well for at least another couple years and may even improve.

It pours a nice amber colour with a tan head. very little lacing. Wine scented aroma with almonds, caramel and bread. Has a very smooth nutty taste with flavors of bananna, licorice and biscuits.

Brown, milky brown well I guess it’s more of cloudy brown then a milky one, the beer only produced a quarter inch cap but this lasted for pretty much the entire life of the brew and it was noisier then hell it was like a giant mug of rice crispies, lacing was excellent as well. Slightly bitter aroma with tons of dark malt, some vanilla, pepper, and just the slightest hint of alcohol, aroma is good maybe a touch mild and for a barley wine its not mind blowingly good. Beer is built on a massive malt backbone what is very refreshing coming from the states to drink a heavier brew that doesn’t taste like hop juice. I’m hitting lots of peppery notes and some other spices and can’t seem to find any trace of the pomegranate juice they have added. I keep getting this flavor every once and a while that I can only describe as minty tobacco but in a good way (how’s that possible). The 10% alcohol is noticeable but barely however my stomach and throat are getting a nice warm sensation with every sip. The taste has a mild bitterness but also comes across sweet, mouth fell seemed pretty standerd. Good brew, high quality and tasty but for a English barley wine its not rocking my world.

Right off the bat this seems to be a milder, more drinkable American Barleywine mainly since the aroma was not harsh. The brew is a reddish dark amber (not totally clear) with a small tan crown that levels off as a skim and leave some small spotty lacing that slowly pops away. The aroma is way more mellow than the other ABW's I've had and this appeals to me. A really good subdued mix of caramelly malts, raisins, citrus (seems to be more orangy, but is probally grapefruit - does that make any sence?), pomegranate is there too (had more strength as it warms), maybe prunes and probally chocolate...yea, the sweetness - I can notice it more every time I breathe in. Man, I'm loving this...great blend and not overpowering! Very fresh and appealing. Just because a beer has insane aroma and flavour does not always make it a great beer just due to the fact that there is LOTS of everything. Very well done. I'm drinking this quicker and quicker...probally not a beer to start reviewing at a quarter to midnight. I'm not sure what I expected from the addition of the pomegranate juice so I'm undecieded if it is the right ammount for me. Lots of flavour here, but nothing agressive - not to say that the flavour is lacking - Malts. Then the cirtusy hops....and then I get a quick dose of bitterness that disipates, definite fruitiness that is really, really tasty - probally the reason I've pretty much drank the entire bottle in during the review. Some caramel to the malts and the bitterness is more prominent then I originally thought but still managable. Plums and some pepper (or something close to it, but not alcohol) and some tartness at the end. Overall a great mix of flavours..odd - this bitterness comes and goes and appears almost at random places in the taste. Just had a stiff shot of spice that almost resembled alcohol but never made it there. He'brew does an amazing job at hiding the 10% in the taste and aroma but not in my now wobbly mind. Mouthfeel is excellent - active carbonation in the mouth, a smooth, soft feel, medium bodied +, and a great aftertaste that is malts and/or bitterness and/or fruit depending on which swig you pay attention to. I like this stuff. I think it's waaaaaay to easy to drink and I'll be buying more - not as much as the Lenny's Bittersweet which is truly awsome. Another good brew from He'brew. Ahhhhhhh. There's the 10%. So easy to drink. Big marks.

While I've had better A. Barleywines, this wasn't too bad. In fact the pommegranites gave it an intersting juicy, fruity angle. An aroma mostly of malts and floral hops but there is a fruity character that's unmistakeable. Appearance is copper in color with a huge off-white foamy head. Mouthfeel was intersting. Thick enough to notice but not cloying in anyway, but still maintaining a lightness. Flavor was fruity, alcohol, malty with a nice hop kick. Not really something that I'd return to multiple times, but for a change of pace barleywine this is fairly interesting.

Rubyish amber colour, small head. Aroma is grapes, very wineous notes, grassy and alcoholic. Flavour is alcohol, malts, grapes (which make it very wineous). Slow to get down, but very pleasant sessionbeer.

A dark amber apperance with a beige head. The aroma is rather malty with some chocolate, raisins, and figs. The flavor is a bit over the top and sweet with some prunes, raisins, and chocolate. Some bitter notes and alcohol present among the sweetness in the finish. I don’t know what the hell this beer is, but I liked it!

I quickly opened my bible and turned to Genesis chapter 10 verse 10 and read aloud as my wife and I were curious....no relevence whatsoever, no problem as I understand the whole 10th anniversary thing. At least I am rewarded with a mighty fine barleywine, American style no doubt. Fruity sweet aroma, the mouth begins to pucker a bit as I sniff the glass. Amber pour with some dark copper and ruby red tints, minimal head that quickly vanishes and no lacing. Standard feel to this one, but the finish is very calm considering the style and high abv. Nice blended flavor, high octane with the malts starts out with a biscuit taste that leads to the sweet maltiness coupled with a fair share of hops and finally finishing with a refreshing dose of fruit flavor (from the pomegranate of course). That last part really makes this unique and very interesting in a really good way. Some yeastiness towards the end, extremely enjoyable......The chosen beer eh.

Pours a dark copper rith ruby red tinges and a large head that dissipates into a thin layer within moments. Aroma comes across very sweet, toffee and caramel, sugary pine and citrus, and some pomegrante aromas poke through here and there. Flavor follows suit, with pomegrante being much more subdued than I had expected. Starts biscuity and sweet, with toffee, a little caramel graininess, some sweet pomegrante sneaks in for a second before being swept away by a bitter rush of citrus and sugary sweet pine needles. Finish is a little on the dry side, with some odd, but not unwelcome chianti-like fruitiness. Makes for a drinkable barleywine, glad to see it wasn't as fruity as I had first anticipated. I'm surprised at the absence of that 10% abv anywhere in the aroma or flavor... interesting beer.

TSC 2. $5.99 for 22 oz. With Sunday night fondue and a Harry Potter movie on DirecTV. Plenty of CO2 in this bottle. Huge, 3" tan head, tons of sticky lace, beautiful bronzed amber color. Slightly hazy with millions of micro-bubbles. A faint wisp of fruit on the aroma, which is otherwise floral and malty sweet. Outstanding smooth mouthfeel, punctuated by the vigorous carbonation. Aftertaste is bitter, in an Old Testament way. I like it as a concept beer, but not really as a go-to beer, or one that I would always want to have around. PS--have you ever eaten a pomegranate? There's too much of the rind and not enough of the seeds in this brew...
