Mavericks Old Soulstice Winter Ale is brewed in the style of an English Strong Ale. This ale is malty in aroma and flavor. It has a light hop aroma, a sublte scotch or whiskey note and a dry finish. It is somewhat bitter, balanced and very drinkable for a strong beer. Approximately 6.7% ABV.

Sampled on 12/12/2009. The Old Ale pours a medium brown color from a 22oz bottle. Medium sized beige foamy head, that quickly diminishes. The aroma is caramel, fruity and touch of peat and smoke with some wood. A medium bodied winter/old ale. The malts are caramel, brown sugar, touch of scotch and a lot of ice tea. The hops are earthy. Decent carbonation. Nicely balanced. But the beer is just kind of there, its sort of bland and boring. Not bad, but just doesn’t do anything for me. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
