Beam Me Up is a style known as a “Wee Heavy”. A big, rich malty body, with a slight peat smoked characteristic. Ales like this were designed to ward off the bone chilling weather of the Highlands. Pick yourself up with Beam Me Up, move a little closer to the peat hearth and let the warming malts take the chill off your bones. Pairs well with hearty spicy meat dishes. Slainte!

The beer pours a translucent reddish brown colour with a thick tan coloured head that lasts several minutes. The aroma is roasted malt, molasses, nuts, and herbal hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is a tad on the bitter side. It starts off sweet, but the bitterness overpowers it by the time it reaches the throat. So, a tad thin for a Wee Heavy and a little too bitter for the style. -

Can from LCBO. Pours a big foamy bubbly tan head and has a dark amber appearance. Thick patchy lacing. Moderate carbonation. Aromas of toasty and bready malts, some earthy and resinous notes as well. Flavours are sweet and toasted malt, hints of caramel, light smokey notes, some subtle spice and even a little bit of chocolate. Doesn't seem like a wee heavy to me, too easy going down.

Clear brown pour with a large off white head. Good retention and lace. Wet grass and metallic aroma. Tastes like an old style home brew kit. Dirty flavour. I expected a fuller, smoother mouthfeel for a scotch ale. Won't buy again.

Pours a clean copper-amber colour with a beige frothy head, average stay and some light foamy lacing. Malty nose with some coffee notes, caramel and grassy hops. These hops are also too present in the taste, and do not blend well with the malts. The roastiness is nice, but the hops come and screw it up. Really, they call this a Wee Heavy?!?
