Barley Brew is a vinous beer with a lot of hops in both scent and taste.

330 ml capped bottle. Poured in a snifter a clear rich burgundy-brown E B W with a half a finger beige coloured foamy head that had a very short retention and plenty of micro bubbles. Moderate carbonation. No lacing. The aroma is toasted and caramel malts, spicy, licorice, fruity, berries and straw. The flavour is heavy toasted and caramel malts, ripe dark fruits, plums, raisins, berries. The mouthfeel is sparkling. This full bodied ale has a long fruity and alcoholic finish. The high ABV level, 10.5 %, is overwhelming the palate,as well as the nose, all over the tasting. Overall a nice tasting E B W.

Hazy reddish brown eith a low white head. sweet malty aroma of toasted malts, sweet licorice, nuts, dried figs, cocoa-powder and alcohol. Full and sweet flavour of nuts, toasted malts, alcohol, leather and figs. Long finish with plenty of dark malts and alcohol.

Blood red colour with mediumsized beige head. Alcohol and dark fruits in aroma with some breadish hints. Pleasantly mixed aroma. Flavour is dry dark fruit, alcohol and hay. Also some cold old coffeeish hints. Flavour is a bit "sharpedged" and a bit unbalanced in that way. The flavours just don’t mix well.

660 ml brown bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. Also available in Norway at Vinmonopolet. ABV is 10.5%. Deep copper colour, large tan head. Interesting aroma, sweet and malty, but also notes of various berries, esp. blackberries, and molasses, caramel and bakery. Intense flavour, very malty and sweet with loads of caramel, partly balanced by a distinct hoppy bite. Spices and alcohol are present too (alcohol maybe more than I appreciate). Quite good, but not easy drinking - the bottle is for sharing!
