An Ecumenical Mash-Up: Our triple pale is a bastardization of three regionally distinctive recipes that were stacked in unequal measure in order to make a beefy beer which highlights each recipe’s finer points: Esters from a dominant Flanders yeast are reigned-in by cleaner American and London strains; Kent Golding hops provide mild bitterness, giving English and Belgian specialty malts room to breath; Oregonian hops offer a fragrant nose; Belgian candy sugar boosts the strength of this mash-up to 8.5% ABV.

Not quite sure what to expect, my senses were immediately pleased by this sturdy and familiar Belgian Ale. Say what you will about the mixing of 3 separate recipes...the Belgian yeast characteristics overshadow any other entity that may be involved. Big fruitiness and a dry characteristic similar to a Tripel, with a grassy pale malt aspect of a fine Belgian Pale Ale. English hops for sure. Strong and assertive, a delicious concoction.

This has a little bit of everything but nothing really stands out. Slightly bitter, just a hint of fruit, plenty of sweet malt, and Belgian yeast. A lot of different flavors and tastes that all seem to mush together--interesting but not great.

Some cherry, pinecone, belgian yeast aromas .. . brown grape colour .. good balance with a touch of dark ale yeast .. some dark fruit too.. . an interesting brew that seems to take a piece from a few different styles.. . a good brew, thanks John! .. . I love collecting strands of Janey's hair, and rolling them up into little Janey hair balls .. .

Thanks to pfoxyjohn for this one. Pours a slightly cloudy amber color with a medium white head. Smells of sweet malts, dried fruits and a bit of alcohol. Taste is rich, well-balanced and smooth. Nice one.

WOW! Ive been waiting a long time to try this beer, and finally its back in the stores! Pours a dark copper colour with a small tan head. Aroam is wonderful, smoke, oak, and caramel. Taste is nice with soft pepper, very rich, black cherry, licorice and bread. Lots of raisins raining all over the place. awesome brew!

Courtesy of pfoxyjohn. This mixed up brew pours a brownish amber with a thin head and some lacing. Nice carbonation. Aromas of caramel, nuts, ripe fruits and a slight musty smell. Taste is like an English ale with a nuttiness and earthiness with a slightly sweet ripe fruit then a very slightly acidic/alcohol in the finish. Unusual brew.

An amber color with a carbonated white head. The aroma contains some alcohol and malty notes. The flavor contains some sour notes with some alcohol, nuts, and caramel. The finish is rather sweet and peppery. I could take or leave this brewing mess.

I've been just a little skeptical of the Furthermore beers. Idiosyncratic brewmaster Aran Madden certainly has been adventurous, what with the cracked black pepper in the APA, the smoked dry stout, and the cream ale/cider blend. In my estimation, the results have been a little mixed and inconsistent beer-to-beer and batch-to-batch. Now comes this "ecumenical mash-up" of "english, american & belgian-style pales". Wow; now they've got something! It starts off as a hazy amber pour with a moderate cream-colored head leaving light lacing. The nose is fresh, fruity and pungently malty. This medium-bodied ale is smooth and rich on the palate and the flavors start out subtle but cascade from the initial hint of figs/raisins and belgian-spiciness through a mild sweetness to a hop-tangy-come-bitterness prelude to the long, warm finish. The well-matched and well-blended flavors make this beer simply irresistable. Very tasty - I LOVE this brew - need to get MORE, but I've heard they've already sold out of this inaugural bottling. I hope there are many more to follow! Well-done, and thanks, Aran, for pushing the beer envelope!
