This is a full bodied rich ale with slight notes of caramel and cocoa and a strong malty character. The hop character is spicy and earthy with a nice finishing hop flavor

i've been a little hard on FS lately, but this one was pretty nice at a decent price. nothing that blew my mind, but a nice medium-full bodied sweet scotch ale. raisin, plum, a hint of smoke and hops come out in the flavor nicely.

#1: Would you like to hear some of my poetry?
    TJ: Not really, no.
    #1: You really should.
"I have killed. I have helped kill. I have killed part of myself. I cannot change this. I... I must seek Buddha. I must seek Christ"
TJ: You must seek therapy. ..But that’s just where I would go with that.

Pours a ruby tan colour, very nice head with superb lacing .. . some aromas range from chocolate, grape juice, jelly/jam, light decorative soap, light sweet smokey werthers, etc, most transfer in the taste.... .. . Very easy to drink, smooth with an almost velvety mouthfeel .. . I bet on tap this is great said Capt. Leroy "Hotdog" Zanzibar .. . tasty stuff, but just outside the ring, needs to be sweeter or smokey or less alcohol or fuller, something... . good but not great but better than good, but still not great

As I pour this beer I get a mix of salty and fruity notes. A solid pour produces a three finger thick, amber tinged, tan colored head in my 25cl tulip glass. The beer is a dark amber tinged, plum color that shows a clear, cranberry red color when held up to the light. The aroma is quite fruity with a solid herbal hop note and a toasted dark malt character that backs both up; the dark malt notes contribute aromas of biscuits and some baked, brown sugar notes. The fruitiness is pretty much all up front with notes of plum, fig and raisin. As the beer warms it picks up some more spiciness.

The beer only has a light sweetness which accentuates a fruitiness, but there is almost a ripe, plum-like tartness. The beer finishes with a bit of hop and dark malt astringency. Actually this is quite hoppy with notes of light citrus, berry-hops, pine and menthol notes (these last two the most) as well as having a solid, lingering bitterness. The hop character actually makes it hard to pick up on all the malt complexity; it is not hopped like an IPA, but it is definitely hop leaning in the flavor. The malt character that is noticeable lends note of browned biscuits, toasted cracker flavors, and a sweet, but complex caramelized malt character. This has a medium body, that is still almost quite quaffable.

This is way too hoppy to be strictly within style, but it is quite a tasty beer. With this amount of hope character it actually could have used quite a bit more chewy malt character.

well to be honest it is not that good.. has a herbal tea like quality to it that just does not work real well. I don't mind the smoke on the back end in fact I think if they made it more strong it would really help this one out.. Bad beer from a average brewery.. too bad

Sampled on 4/24/2009. This Scottish ale pours a medium brown color from a 22oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head, with decent retention. The aroma is caramel, peaty and sweet. A medium bodied Scottish ale. The malts are caramel and sweet, some smoke and peat. The hops are herbal and earthy. Decent balance. Nice carbonation. That said I really don’t like this beer. Not sure if its the peat, the smoke or the herbal vegetative flavors or the combination of all of them, but I can’t drink this one. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter, herbal and peaty.
