Big Lushious is a deep, rich stout that’s packed with flavor: roasted malts, all-natural dark chocolate, a subtle suggestion of burnt coffee grounds and a kiss of tart raspberries. At 7.8% ABV, it’s big, sumptuous and extravagant, but also balanced.

750mL bottle pours with a nice dark brown to black body that supports a thin dark tan head of foam. The aroma offers up malts, caramel malts, some muted raspberry must and then a faint chocolate sort of note. The taste is luscious as snippets of chocolate and a big wave of smooth sweet raspberry sweetness, laced thinly with a raspberry tartness, rush toward you and you’re left helpless and vulnerable. To midway the flavors don’t change much but heighten in their depth and richness. It ends with lingering raspberry notes and quickly fading dark roasted malts and chocolate. This is very tasty where the smooth sweet raspberries are in the front but don’t overwhelm the experience. It would be cool if the chocolate and dark roasted malts were a bit stronger and overall it was just a tad less sweet.

Bottle at home, black beer, small head. Aroma is malt, roast, fruit, raspberry, light sweet. Taste is the same, sweet, raspberry, chocolate, bitter, chocolate-raspberry aftertaste, very good.

Shared 750 ml bottle at local tasting. Pitch black colour, large tan head. Interesting and delightful aroma of ripe raspberries and dark chocolate, hints of marzipan and coffee. Rich mouthfeel and flavour, raspberries and dark chocolate again, sweet but acceptable, smooth and creamy. First class!

Pours warm sable with a thick and rather persistent dark tan head that leaves good lacing. Bold flavor has strong chocolate and raspberry notes (me luvz both!) riding a bed of roast malt, quality coffee, and a caramel hint. Flavor is like raspberry fudge, sinfully sweet, with notes of roast coffee and smoky malt plus earthy and caramel dashes. Firm texture has some good fizz, and leaves a chocolaty and toasty finish. Lushious or luscious, this is a must for all stouties. Pick it whilst you can.
