2011 Imperial Eclipse Stout (Elijah Craig 18/20 Year Barrel) = White Wax Note from the brewer: The white wax 2011 Eclipse was all 20 year. There was no such brand when we acquired barrels, so we called it 18 year. We have since found out that the 20 year old barrels were dumped for a 20yo Elijah Craig special bottling.

2011 bottle, white wax. Chocolate hued pour with a deep tan head. Strong bourbon forward aromas - oak and vanilla. Surprisingly this is still boozy after a year and a half in the cellar, but the Flavors have melded well. Bourbon forward with notes of oak, caramel, and vanilla that finishes with a hint of cocoa. The mouthfeel is thicker than other eclipse, and this is easily the best variant I've had. Superb.

22 oz bottle, bottle 3768 / 2011. Pours brown black with a small dark brown head that quickly foes to a thin film and leaves a little lacing.
The aroma is sweet molasses and dark fruits with a lot of sharp whiskey.
The flavor is roasted malts and sweet sugary dark fruits with a lot of sharp burnt alcoholic whiskey. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.
Overall, it's too sweet and boozy for me. It does mellow some as it warms, but still very sweet. -

Calm pour with slow carbonation, little head and even less lacing. Vinous and sweet containing numerous berry and dark fruit accents to blend with a thick chocolate and roast base. Woody whiskey, vanilla, and floral. Drinks with ease and has a silky texture.

FiftyFifty is a good brewery with hit and (more often) miss service, but damn do they know how to make a stout. The iced eclipse and now this, the (older) elijah craig eclipse have been two of the best beers I've had in 2012. I need me some of this bourbon! Great balance between the wonderful sweet bourbon aromas, vanilla, malted chocolate, dark chocolate, roasted malt, and some bittersweet hops in the aftertaste. Super smooth and deeeelicious!
