My word, that aroma jumps right up and grabs your nose and then suplexes it back to the ground. Lots of soy, spice and roast in there. The flavor is nice but way more mild than the nose, good whiskey notes, roast is light, not much vanilla. Great beer.

Holy Ninkasi, Mother of Beer! Lucky enough to share this with a couple of local friends: brought to our mini-tasting by BigMagicBeer. Near black heavy pour, very tight beige head, chunky lacing. Immediate nose and lingering flavors of vanilla, chocolates, coffee - lots of good coffee, some whiskey but not overpowering, earthy, big, flavorful and completely BAD ASS. Thank you Nick for this most excellent elixir. EPIC.

An aromatic explosion of wonderful coffee, whiskey, cocoa & vanilla. This brew is just about perfect in its balance between the barrels, the coffee (gotta find out what they used) and the beer. Looks great, motor oil with a luscious chocolate brown head. Very smooth, even more so as it warmed, which is odd for such a strong beer. The alcohol shows, but it's never cloying or hot. Great roasted coffee, barrel vanilla chocolate flavor too. Decadent and delicious. One for the ages. *disclaimer: this might even be higher if not for some batch/bottle variance.

Are you kidding me? Are you f-n kidding me? This beer is the most epic beer of all beers. A pitch black color with a tan head. The aroma is chocolate, espresso, caramel, and vanilla. The flavor is perfectly balanced with some german chocolate cake, espresso, coffee, and caramel. The aftertaste is somewhat sweet but the bitterness from the coffee balances everything. Is it sacrelig to say better than Dark Lord or Expedition? This beer probably is!

Batch #3 - poured into a snifter presents a deep black brew with a mahogany head. Aroma of stale coffee, leaving no indication of what is to come. The flavor is a blast of milk chocolate accompanied by a quick kick of espresso. The bourbon is hard to discern but makes an appearance at the end, lending a fine vanilla/oak that adds a great finishing element. This is a top tier brew, worth the high price tag if you're into chocolate and coffee infused stouts.

I was told this was Batch #3, and it's a killer stout. Extremely heavy on gourmet quality, it's upfront and stays with you well after the glass has been emptied. Thick and chewy with a rounded flavor of bitter and dark chocolate, burnt toast, mixed nuts, caramel and vanilla. Creamy and smooth as hell with a lingering coffee taste. Awesome offering.

22oz bottle. Pours dark brown black with a smallish light brown head that goes to a thin film and leaves some lacing.
The aroma is sweet fudgy chocolate and a little coffee. Boozy bourbon comes out as it warms.
The flavor is sweet fudgy chocolate with a lot of roast to balance and some slightly acidic roasted coffee. As I drink more, the burnt, ashy, char roast dominates. Some vanilla and bourbon come out too. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and a little watery.
Overall, almost really good, but I end up thinking ashy cigarettes and day old coffee. -

Nice! Pours black as black gets with a low frothy tan head that dissipates quickly to a ringlet. Aroma is chocolate and whiskey. Flavor is expected coffee and chocolate along with the distinct whiskey barrel. Mouth is full and round, very smooth. Overall another outstanding beer from a growing line from this young brewery.
