Winner of the Chequamegon Area Beer Club 2012 Competition, Doane Beer is brewed by Adam Doane at the South Shore Brewery in Ashland and is available in limited locations in the city of Ashland, WI and at Big Top Chatauqua. "We used some of the six-row barley grown in the area,” said Doane, noting that this played into the 'grow your own-eat your own' sustainability ethos espoused by many. Doane Pils is "hopped with Liberty hops, an American-grown hop with German aroma characteristics, and Cascade hops, another American variety known for its citrusy aroma."

A perfect pilsner, I had this one at the Neighborly bar, which of its 8 beers on draft had 6 pilsners, one octoberfest and one blonde. The octoberfest was the darkest of the beers. Still this is a packer bar and given the choices it was the best best pilsner and the best beer in the bar.
