Red ales were once common in Ireland but disappeared from there many years ago. American microbreweries have reinvented and reshaped the style, but the “soul of the Irish Red Ale is still, and always will be, Irish!” The newest Cottonwood brew has a deep ruby color reflecting the dominant caramel malt taste profile. “Irish” is brewed an extra two hours in the kettle which brings out the roasted malt taste, an almost a toasted overtone. A taste of this “Fine Irish Red Ale” and you will see why those leprechauns are always smiling.

Bottle is labeled irish style red ale. Not really red in the glass, heheheh. More like a clear brownish yellow. Smell is somewhat like cheap mild whisky. Taste comes across as mild whisky with a leathery background. Not bad, decent tingly carbonation. Finish is OK. Cant get over that whisky attribute this stuff has.
