Rated in Dec. 2010. Growler pour was deep dark chocolate with mocha head. The aroma starts sweet and burnt and then hits rich chocolate and oaky spiciness about mid draw with light amounts of sweet prunes and boysenberries jam in the background. The taste enters smooth and silky dark chocolate moving into spicy wood, burnt malts as well as lighter notes of prunes, blueberries and boysenberries. Toward the finish it dries out some with a mild level of dark roasted malt astringency yet playing against growing notes of smooth sweet bourboniness and fading smooth spicy oak notes. Into the after taste I’m left with a bit of boozy heat and boozy roughness as well as burnt malts and dark chocolate.
