This is the first of this style that I have tried, and if the Church Brew Works version is any indication, I would be real hesitant to try another Kolsch again. The head was thin and didn't retain much after melting. The liquid itself is a dark golden color. The nose is malty and tinny, like it came out of a can from across the street at PGH Brewing. Rye, wheat, corn and barley tastes with some hop notations are present, with a very grainy mouthfeel, and a dry finish. It reminded me of Buttwiper or something on the pilsner/American piss water scale. Like I said, if this is indicative of the Kolsch style, I am not impressed. I hope in Cologne, things are a little bit different. C'mon, CBW, you guys can do better than this!
