Pours somewhat hazy mahogany with a fairly thick light tan head. Aroma features sweet caramel and toasted malt notes. Flavor features woody, caramel and toasted malt character, while some hoppy/woody bitterness rears its head. Mouthfeel delivers thin body and so-so fizz. What a catastrophe.

A very good barley wine, good enough to just let it stick to your tongue and not bother swallowing it, heck put it back in the bottle and let it set another year. Flavors of treacle and prunes.

Picked this up a year ago and finally opened it over the weekend. Hazy amber pour with a thin off-white head. Very sweet right out of the gate with notes of caramel, molasses and faint citrus. Somehow, this sweetness doesn't overwhelm though but the high alcohol instantly warms me as I drink. Very nice.

Central Waters makes a damn fine barleywine, whether it's this one or the even more complex barrel aged version, well done! This has the same dark hazy appearance as the barrel aged but lacks the vanilla and oak flavors. Aroma is sweet sweet caramel and the flavor is more of the same. Smooth buttery mouthfeel makes this a great sipping barleywine, a nice little smoldering alcohol burn as it goes down, one of my favorites.

Mowie Wowie....this beer was a pleasant surprise by a local friend during a tasting we held last evening. Hearty and rich with an ample supply of oat bran, vanilla and a woody barrel influence (and I don't think is barrel aged). Beautiful thick body and a silky creamy feel. An exceptional bench mark for a well crafted barleywine.

lots of fruit and spicy hops in the flavor. some of the same in the aroma with some toffee like scents as well. prickly feel, on the sweet side, but quite good. the barreled version, though, was fantastic.

$1.50 bottles of this last night at the OF- Beautiful! Pours a translucent reddish copper colour with a small beige head. Aroma is distinct, has a rasiny, caramel, fig nose. Taste is prettty clean. Well integrated hops, not overly bitter and a little hot. super smooth, not too sweet. very tastey beer.

thanks to john 4 this treat...pours a ruby red with meduim foam profile ... jerky, sugar, plum, gum, fun aromas... some good flavours in this brewski, sherry breath, toffee, aged flavours ... is this a NA beer, i don't detect any alcohol at all, the aging really smoothes out this broo .. a wonderful giving beer that lights up the end of a 74.5 hour week! .. now for some pot .. hahaha..

Tasted at Noogfest 4.0 (2008). This barleywine pours a orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel malts and sweet. A medium bodied Barley Wine. The malts are caramel and sweet. The hops are earthy and floral. Nice balance. Touch of alcohol oiliness. Sweet finish. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Fizzed out of the bottle into a slightly hazy redish-amber body with a tan head that bubbled and foamed itself to oblivion. Deep, dark, muted nose of roasted caramel and spiced plums. Soft and satiny palate with just a spark of bitter-sweetness on the tongue. Very mellow blend of flavors; understated earthy malt, dark fruit and cherries with some citrus notes. Lightly sweet, but turns pleasantly bitter in a real hurry. Long, smooth and warm rum-raisin finish. Nicely done. MUSIC: All the Wine by The National
