The Black Forest of south western Germany is known for its mountains, dense evergreen forests and picturesque villages, who’s dark secrets and legends inspired the Brothers Grimm fairy tales. This classic Schwarzbier styled beer is dark in colour, complex in flavour, yet extremely quaffable at 4.5%. Black Forest Dark Lager has a brown bread crust like character with soft chocolate notes and has a light spicy and a floral hop balance that keeps you coming back for more.

Pours a large frothy creamy tan head and has a dark brown appearance. Lots of sticky dirty lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, hints of toasty malts and a bit of caramel. Flavours are roasted malt, hints of chocolate and very faint mocha. Some earthy and resin notes as well. Average retention. Medium carbonation.

Part of their Brewmaster’s Selection 4-pack. Pours a clean dark amber colour with red highlights. The head is creamy, big, long lasting with creamy lacing. Mild roasted malt scent with hops, hints of caramel and chocolate. The taste is mild as well, with a blend of those malts. Less hops showing. Light roasted barley lingering smoothly. Not bad, but a little too sweet, rich for a Swarzbier, but lacking the roastiness.
