OK this is bull, I paid $13 for a 12 oz bottle. It pours oil-black with no head and no lace! Aroma of chocolate malt, licorace, coffee, molasses, nuts, mint, light citrus, and spices. The mouthfeel is smooth, yet thin. Flavors of booze, chocolate malts, coffee, licorace, citrus. Weak for $!!! BOOO ... Bristol.

$11 = ouch!, oh well i thought it was worth a try, Thick oil black body no head or carbination to speak of. aroma and flavor of dark fruits like prune, plum, raisins, dates and faint whispers of alcohol. Alcohol was very well hid even at 18.4%, a thick, heavy, and sweet and smooth mouthfeel with a dry earthy finish, not a bad imp. stout, just not really for me. Brewed 9/25/03, bottled 6/9/06, consumed 3/20/09

This double imperial stout was just a little too strong for my tastes. The flavor was mostly masked by the harsh alcohol taste. I love the winter warlock, but the XXX not so much. I'd rather have three winter warlocks then one XXX.

Pours dark brown, much lighter than I was expecting from a "double imperial stout", with almost no head on a rough pour. What little foam is there, disappears within minutes. Not surprising given the abv. Aroma is huge, maple syrup, molasses, prunes, caramel and light rum notes. Sweet toffee and caramel up front, followed by prunes, figs, molasses, toasted almonds, and chocolate. Finishes out with spiced rum, licorice, and a long lasting prune and maple syrup sweetness. Alcohol is evident, but not the disaster I was expecting it to be. Mouthfeel is understandably big, with low carbonation and a thick chewy body.

This is a bit better overall than I was expecting. I would have liked a little more roasted malt, but as it is it all came together quite well. There are many other beers of similar strength that can't hide the alcohol nearly as well... a rather impressive beer from a small brewery.

12 oz bottle, brewed on 9/25/03 and bottled on 6/9/06. Pours a dark brown with a small fizzy tan head that quickly disappears.

The aroma is very rich - chocolate, sweet dark fruit, cherries, honey, and a touch of alcohol that increases as it sits.

The flavor is heavily sugary sweet and fruity (plums and raisins and cherries) with a little chocolate. There is a fairly harsh alcohol finish that is slightly bitter. The mouthfeel is is full and syrupy with low carbonation and an alcohol burn.

Overall, an interesting and complex beer, but too over the top for me - I couldn’t finish the bottle. It’s too sweet and alcoholic for me - too much like a liquor which I dislike. And at $11 for a 12 oz bottle, it’s pretty pricey.
