Holding up fairly well, and a rather interesting brew with a bit too much going on for me to truly appreciate it. Deep amber brown pour with a thin head and strands of lacing. Fruity with some roast and a hint of citrus. Caramel and bread.

Tasty brew. I love the way it looks pouring outta the bottle, dark but clear, smooth and a great froth. Smells almost like an impy stout, but with lots of caramel. Drinks smooth but a good fizz balance. Nice roast, anise, chocolate flavor combo.

This poured a black color with a light beige head. The aroma contains chocolate, coffee, toffee, and some citrus. The flavor is pretty much the same as the aroma with maybe hints of caramel in there. What’s with the trend of citrus mixed in with stoutish beers? It’s odd I say! Overall this was ok.

It pours pitch-black with thin light-tan head and hints of lace. An aroma of chocolate malts, hops, limes and orange, coffee bean, light molasses, and mild spices. The mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Flavors of coffee bean, unsweetened chocolate, hops, citrus, and mildly spicy. IPA? Interesting...

he he. mine was from the future as well. the Terminator of beers, bottled 12/25/10, and sent back in time to find us and anihilate our tastebuds. it tried but failed in that regard. it was a bit of a hop assault, but not quite ruinous. supposedly a belgian black dbl ipa, but lacking all but a very subtle belgian yeasty presence, and also hoppy - but not quite as hoppy as your typical west coast dbl ipa. spicy fruit, chocolate and nmolasses present in the aroma and flavor as well. poured black with an off white lasting head. the alcohol was prevelant at this age in the flavor as well. warming, but not hot. smooth, with a lingering bitter aftertaste. tastes a little more like a Brewdog beer than a Stone beer, but good either way.

Batch 325. Bottled 12/25/10? I’m going to assume that they meant 12/25/09 and just got a little overexcited about the approaching new year. Or maybe I’m an idiot and missing something. Anyway, this beer is coffee black, brown highlights around the edges, with a tight khaki head. The aroma is interesting, a blend of roasted malt and odd hop notes. It’s sorta minty, too. The flavor is drier than expected but doesn’t really save things. The package is well-made but a bit of a mess. I’m a fan of oddball strong ales, but this one just doesn’t seem to have much of a point. The flavors aren’t punchy enough and don’t really come together for me. The aftertaste is probably the best part. I don’t mean to be too negative because the beer is clearly well-made with quality ingredients and fairly unique. However, it’s not memorable and definitely overpriced.

Pours out in a really dark brown colour with a low fluffy tan-colored foam. Sweet yet still quite hoppy and hot aroma of roasted malts, chocolate sauce, pine, mild flowers, sweet licorice, yeast, black pepper, sea salt and almonds. Full-bodied with strong notes of pine, prunes, roasted malts, cocoa, sweet coffee and over-riped pears. Long bitter and dryish aftertaste of yeast, grass, dark chocolate, flowers and pine. Not sure what to think about this one yet. Re-rate material.

12 oz bottle. Pours dark black. Thin cream colored head that disappears quickly. Nose of carmel and roasted malts. Thinner than I would hope. Flavor is a toasted malt and light coffee, with a slight hoppiness. Finishes a bit bitter. Decent collaboration but was hoping it would be a bit chewier.

Sampled on 1/8/2010. This American Strong Ale, pours a dark brown color, with nice ruby highlights, from a 33cl. bottle. Small to medium sized tan foamy head. The aroma is roasted malt, hoppy and yeasty. A medium bodied American Strong Ale. The malts are caramel, roasty and slightly chocolate. The hops are citrusy and floral. Lively carbonation. If there were a Black IPA category this beer should be in it. Dark, roasty and hoppy, yet with a touch of yeast and dark fruitiness to it as well. Nice beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
