This beer is frickin amazing. Perfect blend of smoke and whisky, great body, the right abv, no real head unfortunately. Smells like I left beef jerky in my scotch cabinet, just perfect combo.

past the best by date, but you really couldn't tell. as with all of the paradox line, kinda thin and lighter in color than most impys. overdone with the smoke/peatiness, especially in the aroma, where it comes off as medicinal. but since this is a far lighter base stout than mikkeller black hole, this beer was easier to finish than the scotch barreled version of that beer. the ash character kinda overpowers everything else. while it's not wholly unpleasant, i wouldn't get this again.

This imperial Stout pours a inky dark black color from a 33cl bottle. Small to medium sized tan head. The aroma is roasty. Peat and smoke. A medium bodied Imperial Stout. The malts are caramel and roasty with a touch of sweetness. The hops are earthy. Good carbonation. Nice balance. Lots of peat and some wood flavors. Fairly smooth tasting. It definitely has that Islay, smoke, peat character. Touch of chocolate, touch of leather. Hides the alcohol very well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Aroma is strongly of burnt wood with subtle hints of roast quality coffee and molasses. It comes out of the bottle an opaque dark chocolate brown with a thick, fluffy, pale tan head that leaves minimal lacing. Flavor has a strong overtone of charred wood and tones of molasses and fine coffee and a hint of licorice. Texture is smooth, thick and lively, leaving a smoky and somewhat fizzy finish.

I really really really really wanted to like this. Pours black, nary any head. Mouthfeel is smoke. Flavor is ashtray. You can call it complex, you can name all the flavors you taste. I taste one - ashtray.

330 ml bottle, at Olympen, Oslo. ABV was 10%. Imperial stout matured in Islay whisky casks. Black colour, dark ruby in the highlights, low tan head. Moderate carbonation. Intense peaty and smoky aroma, distinct notes of Islay whisky, tar, shore-washed seaweed and salty seas. Very salty, peaty and ashy flavour, with a solid roastiness and a moderate sweetness. The bitterness is fairly moderate though, compared to this beer’s other extreme qualities.

Pours out in a dark brown, almost black colour with a small bubbly off-white head. Tar, salty licorice, smoke, iodine and wood in the aroma. Full-bodied with notes of tar, smoke, anise, iodine, wood and whiskey. Long tarry, woody finish with notes of salmiak.
