Named for the steam beers of the California gold rush era, this lager’s bitter and dry, medium body is offset with a touch of fruitiness for an ideal session brew that deserves a cheers. While making the steam beers of the mid-1800s, during the California gold rush, brewers were unable to regulate the temperature of their ales in the hot California climate due to the lack of reliable refrigeration. Instead, they allowed their lagers to ferment at the ale temperature of 75 degrees. The result is a lager with a touch of ale-like fruitiness. Today, this is followed by the modern practice of cold conditioning, imparting a smooth flavor profile. The bitterness is sharp and clean, while a dry, medium body makes this an ideal session brew.
